Bass Frequently Asked Questions

Will it hurt the fish?

When used according to the label directions, Bass will not harm the fish. In fact using Bass is beneficial to freshwater fish.

How does Bass work?

Freshwater fish like bass expend a substantial amount of energy to maintain proper electrolyte balance and preventing loss of electrolytes to the water they live in. Maintaining proper electrolyte balance is called osmoregulation. When a fish is caught and held (as in a live well), it experiences angling stress that causes the fish difficulty in meeting the energy requirements for osmoregulation. This stress-induced energy deficit leads to an imbalance of electrolytes that affects all vital bodily functions. Bass fights these effects by helping to restore and maintain the proper electrolyte balance in fish and buffers their body against acidosis. By reducing the energy a fish expends and buffering their body against acidosis during capture and holding, Bass markedly improves their chance to survive. While there are no guarantees, Bass helps fish recover from angling stress, giving you a better chance of weighing-in live fish.

Can Bass be used with the new oxygen infusion systems?

Bass can be used with oxygen infusion systems that DO NOT use electrolysis to produce oxygen. Electrolysis-based oxygen infusion systems can convert chloride, one of the important electrolytes in Bass, to deadly chlorine which is toxic to fish. So you should never use Bass with one of these systems.

Is Bass FDA approved?

Currently there is no program within the FDA to approve a product like Bass. The FDA approves drugs. However Bass contains ingredients that the FDA has classified as generally regarded as safe or GRAS substances.
